I used to have the Jacks or Better (job) 9/6 strategy memorized back in the day.

It's been awhile and now I've forgotten some of the choices. This is a good think because I can play hands on our trainer and make note of mistakes that other people might make.

Game: Jakes or Better
Payout: 9/6
Coins: Max

Dealt: 2:d: K:d: T:d: Q:d: 2:s:

I held 2:d: K:d: T:d: Q:d: and that is wrong.

Holding K:d: T:d: Q:d: for the royal flush is a better play.

Lesson: I forgot the power of a 3-card royal flush draw. It is better than a 4-card ace high flush draw.

I am a newb and a newb video poker player. I started playing Joker Poker and quit because of it's lower payout. I find Jacks or Better boring. It looks too simple. So, I play Double Double Bonus. Then I read where that game has a higher variance? So, I have recommitted to Jacks or Better. It's simpler and I am playing to win.

Thanks. Even though I practiced JOB I just get bored with it. So, I switched this weekend back to DDB. Mistake. I started out winning a month ago DDB, AAAA, 2222 and 3333A.
This weekend nothing and I could really see the variance. Folding J, Q or K with an A os isn't fun and you miss the pairs. One thing I ran into was now 9/6 games. Then if you player .25, it was 7/4 or 7/5 I am not sure. DDB was 8/5 @.25. If you play $1 machine, you get 9/6 DDB and 8/5 JOB. So, to get the 4000 coins you have to play $5 a spin. I figured it was probably better to play one $1 coin for 9/6 or 8/5 than to play the .25 machines. Opinions?

Back when we did the videopokertrainer.org payout tables there weren't any great double double bonus options. Even the best ones were under 99%.

Either way, I think max coins are the way to go unless there is no max coin jackpot.

So a single bet at 9/6 is far superior than a max at 7/5. You should avoid 7/5 at all costs.

Those were the ones that paid the lowest odds. The first thing I do is check all the VP machines in the casino. Now I do.

Yeah, checking the paytables is one of the most important factors that most people don't even think about.
